Ferris State optometry founding member endows scholarship
A founding faculty member of Ferris State University’s Michigan College of Optometry, Dr. Robert Carter, has established an endowed scholarship for future optometrists. The Dr. Robert L. Carter Endowed Scholarship aims to help MCO’s recruitment efforts by providing scholarships to first-year students working toward a Doctor of Optometry degree.
Oakland University medical school receives accreditation
The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine has been granted full accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The LCME, sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association, is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to a medical degree in the United States and Canada.
Michigan State University launches film studies program
Michigan State University has launched a new bachelor’s degree program in film studies. MSU’s College of Arts and Letters will host the program, providing students with training in production, history, theory and criticism of cinema. From 2002 to 2014, MSU’s Department of English housed the concentration in film studies as part of its bachelor’s degree program in English.

UCLA raises more than $53 million for football training center
Supporters of the University of California, Los Angeles, have donated more than $53 million in cash and pledges to the Wasserman Football Center planned on UCLA’s campus. The building’s groundbreaking is being planned for fall 2015. The state-of-the-art football training facility is named the Wasserman Football Center in recognition of support from the Wasserman Foundation and its president, UCLA alumnus Casey Wasserman.
Northwestern University receives largest single gift from alumna
Northwestern University alumna Roberta Buffett Elliott has gifted more than $100 million to her alma mater, bringing her total giving to “We Will: The Campaign for Northwestern” to almost $110 million. The $110 million will be used to create the Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Studies. The institute will conduct and facilitate research on global issues and provide collaborative funding to academic departments and programs throughout Northwestern University.
