The Marching Band won national fame not just for its performances at Michigan Stadium. It also won recognition at other campuses, notably during the Rose Bowl games in Pasadena, California, when the football team competed, and at the Super Bowl game Jan. 14, 1973, in Los Angeles. That day, it was viewed by millions during the national telecast. George Cavender, who succeeded legendary conductor William Revelli in 1971, led the band onto the field.
