Police seek information about Diag assault
University Police continue to seek information regarding a Sept. 12 assault on the Diag. A student told police the following day that she had been approached by an unknown male while walking in front of Hatcher Library around 8:45 p.m. After briefly speaking with her, the male inappropriately grabbed her twice before walking away.
The man was described as a college-age white male, 5 feet 8 inches, thin build, medium-length brown hair, possibly brown eyes, clean-shaven and no glasses, wearing a bright pink jacket and black leggings.
U-M Police have followed up on several tips provided by community members, but have not been able to identify a suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Division of Public Safety and Security at 734-763-1131 to speak with a detective.
Student charged in assault
A U-M student has been charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of domestic violence in connection with an alleged altercation with a guest. The Sept. 14 assault reportedly occurred in Baits Housing. The student was released from jail after posting bond pending his next court date.
Staff member charged with assault
A University Hospital staff member has been charged with one count of misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident involving another staff member. He is alleged to have inappropriately touched the co-worker on Aug. 27.
Visitor assaulted by acquaintance
A visitor reported she had been sexually assaulted in the Thompson Street parking structure Sept. 19 by an acquaintance. The 33-year-old suspect was located, arrested and taken to jail, while the complainant was taken to U-M Emergency Department for evaluation. The investigation has been submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible criminal charges.
Visitor charged for West Hall burglaries
A 20-year-old visitor has been charged with breaking and entering in connection with two incidents at West Hall. On Sept. 22, a lab door was found propped open. Entry appeared to have been made through an open window and a staff member’s shoes reportedly were missing. Two days later, in a nearby lab, an exterior window was found kicked in. Responding to a call regarding a subject acting suspiciously in Randall Laboratory later the same day, the visitor was located with the shoes stolen from West Hall. He has been charged with a 10-year felony.
On Oct. 7, he again was found in a U-M building and arrested for additional larcenies and failure to appear at his preliminary hearing on the burglary charge the prior week. He was taken to jail.
Moped taken from outside the Natural Science Building
A moped reportedly was taken Sept. 24 from outside the Natural Science Building in the 900 block of North University. The owner reported that the key accidentally might have been left with the moped. There are no suspects and the investigation has been closed.
