The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2004, are based on six factors: academic reputation, employer reputation, student/faculty ratio, citations per faculty, proportion of international faculty and proportion of international students.
U-M was one of 14 U.S. universities making the top 30, a list that also included 12 private U.S. universities: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Yale University, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University and Duke University.
The other public U.S. university in the top 30 is the University of California, Berkeley.

Greetings everyone, I am a cardiovascular surgeon, graduated on May 7, 2010 (seven years of residence at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Havana Cuba), also master in medical emergencies, teacher and researcher. Right now I work at the Heart Manta, Ecuador. For several years I have read about the prestige of the clinic and am interested in a scholarship or course of overcoming in surgery of the thoracic aorta and heart transplantation. if this alternative might be possible I would like to know my chances to beat me in this regard.

Look at what U of M is being ranked on…..everything but what the students (undergraduate ) are experiencing. I am an undergraduate and I hate it at U of M.

Hi! My name is Leslie Moss from the United States and a University of Michigan graduate. My experience at The University of Michigan–Ann Arbor was great! I enjoyed the student life and great academic milieu there. The Harvard of the Midwest should have been rated in the top five because this institution of higher learning can academically compete with any top university(whether private or public) in the United States. This world renowned university has earned the great reputation of being hard to get in, stay in , and getting out. That is the what the University of Michigan is all about. Go Blue!!!
So for all those individuals who thought it was going to be easy to get through this highly competitive institution of higher learning, you thought wrong!!! maybe that’s why you hated it. Why didn’t you transfer somewhere else?!!

I will have to say to Leslie: I love your zeal for our alma mater, however, though your experiences there were great, you have no right to discount the experiences of an u doubtedly more diverse student population than you were exposed to at the university. I, too, loved The University of Michigan. I, too, had bad experiences that made me hate college life some days. But, many of my bad experiences had nothing to do with academics. Students face a plethora of challenges in today’s college arena, which include but aren’t limited to: financial, social, and political issues on campus.
I am so grateful for my education from and the continued success of UoM. I think as an older alum, maybe you should be more compassionate towards newer graduates and be a guiding light instead of belittling others.
To the new grads: UofM may not have been all party and games. But as a grad who graduated in the middle of the worst economic crisis of this country, I am so glad UofM gave me a thick skin for the world I had to faced outside of campus life. OUR alma mater makes you think, makes you rose to the challenges, and hopefully gave you the skills you needed to succeed in the real world. Hail to the Victors, Hail to the conquering heroes, Hail to Michigan… GoBlue!!!
