Dear Faculty and Staff:

Today, President Coleman announced she will recommend to the Board of Regents that Doug Strong, chief executive officer (CEO) of U-M Hospitals and Health Centers (UMHHC), serve as the University of Michigan’s interim executive vice president and chief financial officer when current EVP/CFO Tim Slottow leaves to become president of the University of Phoenix in June.                                                     

I am pleased to announce that I will recommend to the Board of Regents that Tony Denton, executive director of University Hospitals and chief operating officer (COO) of UMHHC, serve as interim CEO for the Hospitals and Health Centers while Doug serves as interim EVP/CFO.

Doug’s leadership, experience and dedication to Michigan have long been tremendously valuable to our institution. Doug has been at the U-M Health System since 1998, previously serving as associate vice president for health system finance and strategy and chief financial officer of UMHHC. 

At the same time, we are extremely fortunate to have a passionate, talented and experienced leader like Tony, who has already been critical to ensuring that the health system continues to move forward on our highest priorities. Tony began his career at UMHS in 1981 as a fellow in academic health center administration. He subsequently held leadership roles in Human Resources before serving as associate director of operations, senior associate director for clinical services, and, currently, as executive director and COO of UMHHC.

Pending board approval later this month, Doug and Tony will assume their interim positions on June 20.
