Three candidates for the position of chancellor of UM-Flint visited the campus over a two-week period in February. All three individuals are leaders in higher education with extensive backgrounds and diverse experiences. Susan Borrego, David Glassman and Steven Michael were the candidates selected to attend meetings in Flint and Ann Arbor.
Borrego is vice president for enrollment management, planning, and student affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She has broad oversight in the areas of student recruitment, strategic planning, marketing, and intercollegiate athletics. Borrego has worked in both private and public institutions throughout her career as a student affairs administrator.
Glassman is provost and vice president for academic affairs at Bradley University. As the top academic officer at Bradley, Glassman is responsible for the areas of undergraduate and graduate enrollment, the Registrar’s Office, technology, and continuing education. Glassman is a distinguished scholar in the realm of medical anthropology.
Michael is provost and vice president for academic affairs at Arcadia University. With extensive scholarly work and administrative experience in higher education management as experience with working with international universities, Michael also served at Kent State as vice provost of diversity and academic initiatives.
The national search for a new chancellor began in fall 2013 as the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee worked with the executive search firm Korn/Ferry International to solicit input from the faculty, students, staff, alumni and community members regarding the qualities of the next leader of UM-Flint.
Chancellor Ruth J. Person has served as chancellor of UM-Flint since August 2008. She will step down in the spring and return as a faculty member to the UM-Flint School of Management in January 2015.
