The holiday exhibit “50 Shades of Green” Nov. 30-Jan. 5 at Matthaei Botanical Gardens showcases the conservatory at Matthaei and its extensive collection of tropical, temperate and desert plants from around the world.
The exhibit also touches on art, science, environmental issues, and more to illuminate the many meanings of green. It features two U-M student-led workshops, a seasonal flower display, a large holiday tree constructed of poinsettias, and an exhibit of green-inspired student and community art in a variety of media. For kids, there is a display of faerie gardens and resident faeries, and self-guided scavenger hunts.
The exhibit opens with a Holiday Open House Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The annual Spinner’s Flock holiday sale is Nov. 30, with fresh greens and holiday items for sale. At 1 p.m. Dec. 1 there is a musical performance by the Women’s Glee Club Midnight Blue octet. As the exhibit continues, there will be a photography workshop, crafts workshop and more.
Admission is free. The Botanical Gardens is open daily from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Wednesdays until 8 p.m., except for holidays. For more information, go to mbgna.umich.edu or call 734-647-7600.
