The Rev. Jesse Jackson showed support for students who had organized to defend affirmative action at U-M in a talk Oct. 19, 2000, at the Law Quad. “Affirmative action is not just about race,” he said. He gave as an example Title IX provisions that require women’s sports to be provided and funded as men’s sports. “Those women, here at the University of Michigan, benefit from affirmative action. Title IX is affirmative action,” he said.
