Search underway for executive director of audit services

The search for the university’s next executive director of audit services has begun.

Jeff Moelich, who led the department for nearly 12 years following a career in the private and academic sectors, retired from the position effective June 30. 

Hilaire Nachtrab is currently serving as the interim executive director. Nachtrab has spent 12 years in auditing at U-M, and has more than 20 years experience in private and agency auditing roles. 

President Domenico Grasso has announced the appointment of a U-M advisory committee to assist in the search for a replacement. 

Assisting the committee is executive search firm Opus Partners. Representing the firm are senior partner Craig Smith and partners Kenna Boyd and Katie Dean. This team provides extensive expertise in senior-level searches nationally and internationally.

The advisory committee includes staff and faculty representatives from the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses, as well as Michigan Medicine:

  • Michelle Casey, chair, ethics, integrity, and compliance officer
  • Anjali Anturkar, associate vice president for student affairs, Student Life
  • Cory Belote, internal controls coordinator
  • Lorraine Currie, executive director, Enterprise Risk Management
  • Mike Hague, executive director of business operations, Office of the Vice President for Research
  • Beth Manning, human resource director, UM-Flint 
  • Dawn Roult, financial director, UM-Dearborn Business Affairs
  • Jeanne Strickland, chief compliance officer, privacy director, U-M HIPAA officer, and Hospitals and Health Centers compliance officer, Michigan Medicine; and adjunct clinical instructor in nursing, School of Nursing
  • Mitchel Sollenberger, professor of political science, UM-Dearborn
  • Tally Thrasher, assistant vice president and chief procurement officer
  • Tim Wood, assistant vice president, University Human Resources

Staff members assisting with the search include Keisha Blevins, deputy chief of staff and senior human resources advisor, and Tja’ Page, executive assistant and project coordinator.

An online survey offering community members the opportunity to share the skillsets the next executive director of audit services should possess will remain open through 11:59 p.m. Oct. 13.
