Applications sought for grants that support internationally focused programming
Applications are being accepted for Global Engagement Event Grants. The program supports internationally focused events held on or near U-M campuses, including cultural activities, conferences, symposia, and other programs designed for U-M students, faculty, and staff. Applications are welcome from U-M units, with a preference for proposals developed in collaboration with students or student organizations. Proposals that engage contemporary issues and pilot novel and creative programming are encouraged. Grants cannot be used for ongoing or recurring events, such as lecture series or annual conferences. They are specifically intended for new programming that meet one or more of the following objectives: Promote cultural humility and understanding, raise awareness of global interconnectedness, or prepare students to become global leaders. Individual grants will be up to $10,000. Units will be requested to contribute 25% in cost share. Proposals will be accepted through Oct. 2 for events taking place this academic year. UM-Flint, MCCC partnership expands access to bachelor’s degrees for nurses
The UM-Flint School of Nursing and Monroe County Community College are partnering to offer a new pathway for registered nurses and nursing students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The first course in this new pathway, “NSC 180: Legal and Moral Issues in Healthcare,” begins fall 2025 and includes three in-person sessions at Monroe County Community College in addition to online instruction, creating flexibility for working professionals. Supported by the MiLeap State Initiative Grant, up to 15 eligible students will receive a scholarship that covers full in-state tuition for the 3-credit-hour course, valued at $1,782.75. Prospective students do not need to be Monroe County residents or MCCC graduates; anyone able to attend the in-person meetings can apply. Applications for the course and scholarship will be accepted through October. Current Monroe County Community College nursing students and Michigan-licensed registered nurses accepted to UM-Flint are encouraged to apply using the scholarship application.
