The University of Michigan’s annual day of giving — Giving Blueday — returns March 19 when U-M community members worldwide will join together for 24 hours to support inspiring causes and programs at the university.
Donors can find causes and make donations on the Giving Blueday website, where they also can track real-time progress throughout the day, register to become an online Advocate and learn about donor-sponsored matching and challenge funds offered only on Giving Blueday.

This year, the university hopes to build on the momentum of its Look to Michigan fundraising campaign launched to the public last fall, with a focus on the importance of every gift when it comes to helping the university pursue what’s next for student experiences, civic engagement, health and well-being, protecting the planet and more.
Donors also can give to the highest priorities across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses, as well as Michigan Medicine, Athletics, special initiatives and more.
“Giving Blueday is such an exciting reminder of what we can accomplish when we all support the ways Michigan is making a difference,” said Tom Baird, vice president for development. “The unmatched energy, creativity and generosity of the U-M community is truly inspiring.”
On Giving Blueday 2024, more than 11,500 donors gave more than $5.3 million to U-M, including support for nearly 150 student organizations, such as the Engineering Global Leadership Honors Program, UM-Dearborn’s MASA rocketry team, and UM-Flint’s women’s soccer program.
Those who want to help spread the word can sign up to become a Giving Blueday Advocate and participate in the “Give Blue +2” campaign — every advocate who gets three or more donors to give through their giving link will receive an exclusive U-M baseball cap.
During Giving Blueday, donors can make their gifts go further with more than $120,000 in daylong and hourly challenges and matches that are available for students, faculty, staff and more. For example, first-time donors to the university will have their gift matched up to $50.
Since launching in 2014, Giving Blueday has received more than 100,000 gifts totaling nearly $50 million.
