To help kick off this year’s Active U Autumn, MHealthy is inviting all Ann Arbor university faculty, staff and students to its outdoor “Play Day” events, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
These free events encourage the university community to find the fun in physical activity, and include games, activities, giveaways and more. A walk/run celebrating the Comprehensive Cancer Center’s 25th anniversary also will take place Thursday morning.
“There are so many ways to add activity into your life that are fun, physical and get your blood flowing and heart pumping,” says Colleen Greene, MHealthy senior wellness coordinator. “We know it’s hard to find the time to do things we love, much less something we might not really enjoy, like exercise. These events are designed to help you find the joy in physical activity. Take a few minutes to get outside and talk with a health expert, sample some healthy snacks, and join in on the fun.”
Employees who attend an MHealthy Play Day event will receive an MHealthy baseball cap or T-shirt (quantities are limited). Additionally, benefits-eligible employees can enter MHealthy’s November Grand Prize Drawing for a chance to win one of six $500 American Express gift cards. To enter, employees must bring their U-M ID and get it swiped at the event.
Tuesday
• MHealthy Play Day, Ingalls Mall, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
This event includes healthy snacks, games and activities, inflatables, information booths staffed by MHealthy experts, giveaways and more. Attendees can also support Food Gatherers by bringing a nonperishable food item to donate.
Thursday
• Cancer Center’s 25th Anniversary Walk/Run, Nichols Arboretum, 7:30-9 a.m.
Faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the center’s anniversary by participating in this walk/run sponsored by MHealthy and U-M Cancer Center. Participate in a UMHS leader-led one-mile walk/run (begins at 8:15 a.m.) or a three-mile run through the Arb. Register for this event only at www.mhealthy.umich.edu/run
• MHealthy Play Day, University Hospital Courtyard, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
This event includes healthy snacks, games and activities, information booths staffed by MHealthy experts, giveaways and a dunk tank featuring UMHS leaders raising funds for the UMCC Patient and Family Support Services Fund.
Each Play Day event also will include registration stations for Active U Autumn, MHeathy’s six-week physical activity challenge. All university faculty, staff, students, employee spouses/other qualified adults, and retirees can sign up for Active U Autumn through Oct. 1. Track physical activity Oct. 1-Nov. 11.
