U-M once again is listed as the top U.S. public university in the QS World Rankings for 2013, and is ranked 22nd among all institutions worldwide. The university ranked 17th in the 2012 survey.
The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2004, are based on six factors: academic reputation, employer reputation, student/faculty ratio, citations per faculty, proportion of international faculty and proportion of international students.
U-M was one of 15 U.S. universities making the top 30, a list that also included 13 private U.S. universities: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Stanford University, Yale University, University of Chicago, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University and Northwestern University. The other public U.S. university is the University of California Berkeley.
The United States had the most universities of any nation on the list, with 51 universities in the top 200, while 29 were from the United Kingdom and 12 were in Germany.
