Provost Martha Pollack has named a search advisory committee for the dean of LSA.
Peggy McCracken, professor of French and associate chair of the Department of Romance Languages and Literature, and professor of women’s studies and comparative literature, LSA, will chair the committee that will be charged with conducting a broad search and presenting an unranked slate of recommended candidates by winter term 2014.
Other members of the committee, from LSA unless otherwise indicated, are:
• Luciana Aenasoaie, doctoral student, Department of Anthropology and Department of History.
• David Barger, alumnus, LSA; president and CEO, JetBlue Airways.
• Natasha Dabrowski, undergraduate student.
• David Gerdes, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of physics.
• Brenda Gunderson, senior lecturer, Department of Statistics.
• Anna Mapp, Edwin Vedejs Collegiate Professor of Chemistry, professor of chemistry; research professor of life sciences, Life Sciences Institute; director, Program in Chemical Biology.
• David Munson Jr., Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, professor of electrical engineering and computer science, College of Engineering.
• Lisa Nakamura, professor of screen arts and cultures, professor of American culture.
• Steven Schlecht, director of budget, finance and information systems.
• Joel Slemrod, Paul W. McCracken Collegiate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy, professor of business economics and public policy, Stephen M. Ross School of Business; professor of economics and chair, Department of Economics.
• Alford Young Jr., Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of sociology and chair, Department of Sociology, professor of Afroamerican and African studies.
In an April email to faculty and staff at the college, former provost Phil Hanlon wrote that the Board of Regents had approved the appointment of Susan Gelman, Heinz Werner Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, Heinz Werner Collegiate Professor of Psychology and professor of psychology, as interim dean, effective Sept. 1.
“Professor Gelman is one of the most distinguished and highly visible scholars in the college,” Hanlon wrote. “She has served in numerous administrative capacities at the University of Michigan, and is an outstanding educator, mentor and researcher.”
“With Professor Gelman’s years of experience as a faculty member and her knowledge of the college’s administration, LSA will maintain its momentum during the interim period,” he added.
