Regents approve design for G. G. Brown renovation

The Board of Regents approved the design for a renovation of the George Granger Brown Memorial Laboratories building for the College of Engineering. The renovation will update infrastructure, including the entire building’s fire detection, alarm, and emergency power systems, and updates in the majority of the building to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, roof, windows, and interior finishes. Approximately 25,000 gross square feet of state-of-the-art academic and instructional spaces will also be created during the renovation. The $47 million project is being funded by the State of Michigan through the capital outlay program ($30 million) with the balance being funded from investment proceeds, College of Engineering resources, and Office of the Provost resources. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2016.

Field Hockey Team Center project moves forward

Design approval was received for the New Field Hockey Team Center, New Field Hockey Stadium, and Ocker Field Improvements project. The $13.5 million project will demolish the Ferry Field Locker Rooms building and create a new 13,000-gross-square-foot team center for field hockey, including locker rooms for players and coaches, offices, and training facilities. Ocker Field will be refurbished with new turf, a new scoreboard, and new field lighting, and a new grandstand will be constructed for 1,500 spectators, along with a new 2,000-gross-square-foot concessions building with restrooms. Athletic Department resources and gifts will fund the project, with construction scheduled to be completed next summer.
