Courant speaks on state of library

Paul N. Courant, whose appointment as university librarian and dean of libraries ends in September, will speak about the academic library landscape and the ongoing reverberations of library digitization in his talk “Reflections on The State of the Library” from 1-2:30 p.m. July 9 in the Hatcher Graduate Library Gallery.

As U-M provost, Courant helped establish the university’s agreement with Google to digitize the library’s collection, and as Dean of Libraries he co-founded HathiTrust to enable a consortium of research libraries to share their digitized collections.

In April this year, he was named an inaugural member of the Digital Public Library of America’s Board of Directors.
