The Wall Street parking lot (M41) will close in June when work begins on a new 720-space parking structure.
During construction, 211 Blue Permit spaces will be displaced.
The five-story, $34 million project was approved by the Board of Regents during its April 2012 meeting.
The parking structure will feature open space at both ends, including park-like landscaping with trees and water features for stormwater management, irrigation and reduction of storm runoff to the Huron River.
The structure also will include infrastructure for electric-vehicle charging stations and a covered bus stop for park-and-ride use.
The project is expected to be complete in July 2014.
Alternative parking options will be available during the one-year construction period:
• Other Wall Street lots (Blue Permit parking) — M50, M76, M87, M91 — approximately 100 spaces vacant per day. This option has bus service to the Medical Campus via UMHS Intercampus bus service and is served by Ann Arbor Transit Authority routes 1U, 2A and 2B.
• North Campus Research Complex commuter lots (Orange Permit parking) — NC90, NC91 — offers approximately 150 spaces vacant per day. Bus service to and from Medical Campus includes U-M Commuter northbound and southbound, Northwood, and Research Link routes.
• South Campus commuter lots (Orange Permit parking) — SC6, SC7 — offers approximately 230 spaces vacant per day. Bus service to and from the Medical Campus via U-M Commuter northbound and southbound routes.
