Author, political strategist and Georgetown University professor Donna Brazile is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the 2013 Women of Color Task Force (WCTF) Conference at 8:30 a.m. March 8 at Hill Auditorium.
Brazile has worked on political campaigns since age 9 when she worked to elect a city council candidate who had promised to build a playground in her New Orleans neighborhood. The candidate won, the swing set was installed, and a lifelong passion for political progress was ignited. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1983 and is the recipient of several honorary degrees from institutions including Grambling State University and her alma mater.
Brazile has worked on every presidential campaign since 1976 in different roles. She served as the campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000, making her the first African-American woman to manage a presidential campaign. She is the currently the vice chair of voter registration and participation for the Democratic National Committee and serves as an adjunct professor in the Women and Gender Studies Department at Georgetown University. She is also a contributing commentator to CNN, NPR and ABC News.
The annual career conference includes 30 professional and personal development workshops, a networking luncheon and a vendor marketplace that features a diverse group of local businesses and community organizations. The conference theme is Planning + Action + Perseverance = Success. There is a fee to attend the conference, but the keynote talk is free.
