Applicants sought for 2013 Michigan Road Scholars Tour

U-M instructional, research, and clinical track faculty are invited to apply to be part of the 2013 Michigan Road Scholars Tour, scheduled for May 6-10.

The annual educational tour will expose participants to the state’s economy, government and politics, culture, educational systems, health and social issues, history, and geography. It is designed to increase mutual knowledge and understanding between the university and the people and communities of the state.

The five-day tour will introduce participants to the places the majority of our students call home, encourage university service to the public, and suggest ways faculty can help address state and local issues. In addition, the experience is expected to develop beneficial ties and promote interdisciplinary discussion among the touring faculty.

Applications will be accepted until Nov. 30. A faculty advisory committee will select 30 faculty members to participate in the tour.

All meals, accommodations (private rooms for each participant), and transportation will be provided. Participants travel in a tour bus equipped with a restroom, video monitors, and snacks. Stops will include special presentations by and interaction with a variety of community representatives.

Participants will each receive a notebook with pertinent background on state issues, locations to be visited and community people with whom they will meet.
