In a continued effort to make the Ann Arbor campus more bicycle-friendly, the university will host its first Bike Week, today (Nov. 5) through Friday.
Bike Week is a celebration of “all things bike” by encouraging the use of bicycle transportation on campus and throughout the city of Ann Arbor.
As one of the projects selected by the Planet Blue Student Innovation Fund, the university installed two air pumps and a bicycle repair stand.
The pumps were installed at North Quad and Pierpont Commons, and the repair stand is near the C.C. Little Building.
“This is a great opportunity to help promote biking on campus. We want to make sure our cyclists know about all the available resources, which are free for all members of the campus community,” said Lisa Solomon of Parking & Transportation Services.
A featured activity during the week includes daily demonstrations on how to use the repair stand. The sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Central Campus Transit Center. Bike Ambassadors also will be on hand to provide tips, such as how to bike in cold weather or how to navigate in traffic.
Representatives from the Office of Campus Sustainability, PTS, Common Cycle and the Clean Energy Coalition, as well as other bicycle-related organizations, will be there to talk about their efforts to promote and encourage biking as well as the new bike-share program coming to Ann Arbor.
In March, the university was named a Bike Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists, one of only 35 campuses nationwide to receive the designation.
