U-M to host U.S. income gap debate

U-M will host a debate Tuesday about how unequal American society has become and what is the best way to close the income gap.

The debate will include Jared Bernstein, the former chief economist and economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden. He will be joined by libertarian scholar Charles Murray, author of the new book “Coming Apart,” which describes an unprecedented divergence in American classes over the last half century.

The moderator will be Pulitzer Prize winner Clarence Page, a syndicated columnist and editorial board member at the Chicago Tribune.

The debate, free and open to the public, will be from 4-5:30 p.m. at Rackham Auditorium. It is presented by the National Poverty Center at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy with funding from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
