Accolades

Lester Monts, senior vice provost for academic affairs, and Louis Yen, professor with the U-M Confucius Institute, recently were named honorary professors of the University of Science and Technology Liaoning, China, by its president Qiubo Sun, who said he expected future collaboration between U-M and USTL. Monts and Yen also were both named honorary professor and visiting professor at Liaoning University, at a ceremony at its Songshan Campus.

Dr. Elizabeth K. Speliotes, assistant professor of internal medicine and assistant professor of computational medicine and bioinformatics, Medical School, has earned a $486,000 grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The award is designed to help emerging physician scientists to research one of the leading causes of liver damage. She will use the grant to study the genetic factors leading up to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, which is rapidly rising in the United States and linked to obesity and diabetes.
