CAPS is building a 20/20 vision for 2020

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is developing a shared vision for 2020 — including opinions and ideas from others.

“Within CAPS, our work and research inform us on how we can strengthen student mental health for our campus,” says Director Todd Sevig. “As we build a vision for services, programs and education for the future, however, we want to have input from students, staff, faculty and parents. What are our aspirations for the future? What are the goals? What will make a difference in students’ lives?”

To encourage campus and community engagement in the visioning process, CAPS worked with Michigan Marketing & Design to create a video about the 2020 vision’s purpose and work. CAPS also developed an online query that is open to anyone who would like to submit ideas about strengthening college student mental health.

The query will be open until April 30, after which time the CAPS Student Advisory Board members will select ideas they think will matter the most to students. Ultimately, the prevailing ideas from the community will be incorporated into the vision and the subsequent programming work of CAPS.

Links to the video and the online query can be found on the CAPS website, www.umich.edu/~caps/caps-2020-vision.html.

“We invite anyone with an interest in this visioning process to share their views and ideas,” Sevig says. “We can address challenges in student mental health understanding and treatment by building upon the collective wisdom of our students, staff, faculty and parents.”
