IIn a March 9, 1994, appearance at Rackham Auditorium, a standing ovation greeted Betty Shabazz, widow of Malcolm X. She told the crowd that when her husband was assassinated, she was pregnant and without a home or a job. “I could have sat and cried and criticized everyone from God on down,” she said. “I used that energy to pull myself up.” — Courtesy Michigan Daily
