Faculty nominations sought for DPS Oversight Committee

Nominees are being sought to represent Faculty Senate and non-Senate positions on the Department of Public Safety Oversight Committee.
The DPS Oversight Committee considers grievances against any police officer or DPS. Its findings and recommendations are reported to the executive vice president and chief financial officer.

The six-member committee consists of two student members, two faculty members (one Senate faculty and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms.

University Human Resources is soliciting nominations for the non-Senate faculty representative. Members of the following groups are eligible to be nominated for and participate in the election for this position: lecturers, emeriti, adjunct and clinical faculty members.

Nominations for the non-Senate position can be made online through Feb. 24 at hr.umich.edu/dps/facultynomination.html. Faculty members may nominate themselves or another lecturer, emeriti, adjunct or clinical faculty member. Nominees will be contacted by Staff Human Resources for their consent to run in the March election. Appointment of the newly elected member of the committee will take place in April.

The Faculty Senate is following a similar timeline to elect its representative to the committee. Faculty Senate members may submit nominations of eligible Senate members to [email protected]. The Senate includes all tenured and tenure-track professors, librarians, primary research faculty with full-time appointments, executive officers and deans.
