Man remains in jail for East Quad home invasion
A 55-year-old man remains in jail awaiting his pre-trial hearing March 7 on a charge of first-degree home invasion. He is accused of entering an East Quad residence hall room around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6. His bond was set at $25,000 cash. One of the room residents told university police that she had returned to her room after being gone about five minutes and found the unknown man standing near her closet. When she confronted the man, he stated he needed a restroom and left the area. The resident later reported that a small purse, which was used as a pencil case, was missing.
Two hospital employees report assaults by patients
In separate incidents, two University Hospital staff members each reported being sexually assaulted by patients in January. Neither reported any injuries.
A nurse’s aide reported Jan. 10 that while she was conducting a medical procedure with a patient, he inappropriately touched her and made several inappropriate comments. The prosecutor’s office denied authorizing charges in the incident because the reportee did not want to seek charges.
On Jan. 27 a nurse’s aide reported that she had been inappropriately touched twice by a patient while she was assisting another patient. The investigation is pending.
CEW office doors damaged
Staff at the Center for the Education of Women twice reported to police that they found pry marks on internal office doors. On Jan. 5 the staff reported that when they returned from the holiday break, they found pry-marks on four doors. Entry had not been made to the offices and no property was reported missing. On Jan. 9 another door was found to have been damaged sometime overnight, but again entry was not made and property was not taken. Investigation into both incidents has been closed due to a lack of leads.
ROTC supply room ransacked
On Jan. 13 staff at the ROTC offices in North Hall reported that when they arrived for work around 6:30 a.m., they discovered their supply room had been ransacked sometime during the night. An exterior window also was found broken and the room door kicked in. However, no property appeared to be missing. The case has been closed due to a lack of leads.
Museum door damaged
Staff at the Ruthven Museum reported Jan. 3 that an office door was found damaged when they returned from the holiday break. Screws had been removed from a lock faceplate, but entry had not been made to the room. No property was reported missing. The case has been closed due to a lack of leads.
