Don’t miss: Poet Gambito presents reading, joins round table

Sarah Gambito, author of the poetry collections “Delivered” and “Matadora” will present a reading of her work at 5:10 p.m. Thursday in the Helmut Stern Auditorium in the U-M Museum of Art.

In reviewing “Matadora,” Publisher’s Weekly wrote that Gambito evokes a carnival of multiethnic references, intuitive leaps and fiery existential queries, such as when she writes, “I like God alright but I don’t understand anything he’s talking about.”

Gambito also will join a round table discussion on her work at 2 p.m. Thursday at Angell Hall in the Hopwood Room (1176).

Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Iowa Review, The Antioch Review, Denver Quarterly, The New Republic, Field, Quarterly West, Fence and other journals. She is assistant professor of English and director of creative writing at Fordham University. With Joseph Legaspi, she co-founded Kundiman, a nonprofit organization serving Asian-American poets.

Her honors include the Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award from Poets and Writers and grants and fellowships from The New York Foundation for the Arts, Urban Artists Initiative and The MacDowell Colony.

Gambito’s appearance is sponsored by the Zell Visiting Writers Series, Department of Graduate English.
