For questions or assistance:

• ITS Service Center (supports MGuest, MWireless and the U-M Wireless Network): call 734-764-HELP (764-4357), email [email protected] or go to its.umich.edu/help. Hours: 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday (phone and email) and 1-5 p.m. Sunday (email).

A new, limited WiFi network now is available to U-M visitors. MGuest is offered in locations where Information and Technology Services (ITS) provides coverage for MWireless and U-M Wireless Network. The Health System will continue to maintain a separate guest wireless service, but the name of that service recently was changed to MGuest-UMHS.

“MGuest was developed to meet the request to enable U-M visitors to access their email and the Web while on campus. The network is treated like an off-campus network, so some resources such as library journals are not available when connecting using MGuest,” says Andy Palms, executive director of Communications Systems and Data Centers for ITS. “We are pleased to provide MGuest to accommodate our visitors.”

Limits of the service were put in place to minimize potential security risks. The ease, convenience and goodwill reaped by providing unauthenticated WiFi access on the U-M Ann Arbor campus was deemed important by the Unit IT Steering Committee that leads the charge to adopt this new service.

All U-M students, faculty and staff strongly are encouraged to use MWireless — the most secure and robust U-M WiFi network. MWireless provides full encryption for the login process, as well as all data sent and received on the WiFi network.

MCommunity Sponsored Guest Accounts (www.itcs.umich.edu/mcommunity/forms) still are recommended for visitors who need a secure Internet connection (MWireless) or access to U-M protected Web resources, and/or have a longer-term relationship with U-M such as visiting scholars and contractors.
