Dr. Gerald Abrams, active professor emeritus of pathology, has received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. Abrams has spent more than five decades participating in the design and modification of the medical school curriculum and educating almost 10,000 students on the intricacies of pathology.
Shachar Pinsker, associate professor, Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, has been awarded the Jordan Schnitzer Book Award for his recent book “Literary Passports: The Making of Modernist Hebrew Fiction in Europe” (Stanford University Press, 2011). The selection committee said Pinsker’s book breaks new ground in modernist studies generally and in the study of Hebrew literature in Europe.
Sela Panapasa, assistant research scientist at the Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research, has been selected to receive a 2011 Health Disparities Research Leadership Award for her contributions to improving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander health. Her research examines the role socio-demographic change plays in the health and well-being of island populations across the life course.
