Several street attacks reported
Police continue to receive reports of attacks on streets near campus, including three sexual assaults. The Ann Arbor Police, with assistance from the Department of Public Safety, are investigating these incidents. Additionally both police departments have increased uniformed police patrols throughout the night hours on and near the central campus area.
Three sexual assaults were reported between July 15 and 18 — with the third occurring around 2:40 a.m. July 18 in an alley across from Weill Hall on South State Street. The suspect originally was reported to be a white male about 6 feet 5 inches with brown hair and brown eyes. But after follow-up interviews and further investigation, the Ann Arbor Police have revised the suspect’s height to 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches. Additionally Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information regarding the incident. Contact the Ann Arbor Police Tip Line at 734-794-6939.

Reward offered for incident at Hospital cafeteria
The university is offering a reward up to $500 for information about the June 24 attempted robbery and assault that occurred near the University Hospital cafeteria. In the incident, a man reportedly used a stun gun in attacking a cafeteria manager and knocking him to the ground before fleeing. The victim was not seriously injured. A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, but the prosecutor later dismissed charges against the suspect. Police continue to believe the attack was a targeted incident and not a random threat to the public.

Laptops taken from Medical School building
Eleven laptop computers and a hard drive were stolen from a computer storage area at the Taubman Medical Library prior to June 20. A staff person reported finding a broken window in the entry door to the window. The investigation is pending.
Bag taken from Northwood apartment, some items returned
A bag containing a voice recorder, foreign money and other personal items was taken from an occupied Northwood apartment in the 1200 block of McIntyre June 25. An unknown person apparently entered the apartment through an unlocked patio door. The property owner returned home around 9 p.m. to find some of his property in a plastic bag outside the front door of the apartment though the recorder and money was missing. The investigation is pending.
Arson damaged parking structure joints
Rubber expansion seals on two levels of the Thompson Street parking structure were damaged by fire June 27. A passer-by called police around 2:55 a.m. to report smoke was coming from the structure. The Ann Arbor Fire Department extinguished the fire. In addition to the expansion seals, a small portion of construction fencing also burned. No other property was damaged. There are no suspects at this time.
