Awards

Sijue Wu, the Robert W. and Lynne H. Browne Professor of Mathematics, was awarded the Morningside Gold Medal of Mathematics at the Fifth International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians, hosted in December by Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Morningside Group. The medal is considered the most prestigious award for Chinese experts in mathematics. Wu is the first woman recipient in the medal’s history.

A U-M Health System lab team headed by Yang Zhang, associate professor of computational medicine and bioinformatics, that included graduate student Ambrish Roy and postdoctoral fellows Dong Xu and Jian Zhang, recently took top honors in the Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction, a biennial scientific competition involving laboratories all over the world. The U-M lab was ranked No. 1 in both protein structure and function prediction among more than 200 groups.
