Ann Arbor campus holiday season closings, hours

Services

University Unions

Individual vendor hours will be posted at uunions.umich.edu/hours.

Michigan League

Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 23, closed Dec. 24-Jan 2. Regular hours resume Jan. 3.

Michigan Union

The Michigan Union semester break hours are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 22, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 23 and closed Dec. 24-26. The ground floor only will be open, along with Wendy’s, STA Travel and Barnes & Noble, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 27-30. The Michigan Union will be closed Dec. 31-Jan. 2. It will be open from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 3 and 7 a.m.-2 a.m. Jan. 4.

Pierpont Commons

Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 22-23; closed Dec. 24-26; open ground floor only 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 27-30; closed Dec. 31-Jan. 2, open 7 a.m.-midnight Jan. 3

Towsley Children’s House, 710 S. Forest Ave., will be closed Dec. 23-Jan. 4.

The Office of Financial Aid will be open 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 15, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 16-23, and closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2.

LSA Instructional Support Services

• The Media Center will be open 9 a.m.-12 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays and noon-midnight weekends through Dec. 17; noon- 8 p.m. Dec. 18; closed Dec. 19; open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 20-22; closed Dec. 23-Jan. 2 and will reopen from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 3.

• LSA checkout centers/helpdesks:

267 Dennison will be closed Dec. 14-Jan. 4.

2012 MLB will close Dec. 13 and reopen Jan. 5 at 2104 MLB.

• G340 Mason will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 14-22, close Dec. 23, then reopen from noon-4 p.m. Jan. 3, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 4, before returning to regular hours Jan. 5.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens
The Matthaei Botanical Gardens building, conservatory, lobby and garden store are open 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Dec. 27-30 and Jan. 1-2; and closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31. Trails and all outdoor areas, typically open seven days a week sunrise to sunset, are closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

University Payroll Office

The monthly payroll will be distributed Dec. 22. The last biweekly payroll will be distributed on Dec. 30. The office will be open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 23, closed Dec. 24-29, open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 30, and closed Dec. 31-Jan 2.

University Mail Services

• University Mail Services (UMS) will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2.

• United States Postal Service (USPS):

Dec.10 is the deadline for units to submit requests to University Mail Services for USPS mail delivery or metering needs during season days Dec. 27-31. Submit requests via e-mail to [email protected]. Questions can be directed to 734-764-9227.

• Standard permit mail to be processed and mailed before the holiday break must be at UMS by 5 p.m. Dec. 17. Mail must be dropped off at UMS by 5 p.m. Dec. 22 to be postmarked before Dec. 25. The USPS will be open during U-M season days Dec. 27-31 (UMS will be closed), but will not provide service to university buildings unless advance written requests are received at UMS.

• USPS International Mail: Items weighing over 16 oz. must have a completed customs form. Mail under 4 pounds requires the 2976 Form and over 4 pounds requires the 2976A Form. Review the UMS website for additional information or go to www.usps.com. International re-mail must be at Mail Services by 10 a.m. Dec. 8 to be delivered by Dec. 24. UMS will continue to process international re-mail (received at Mail Services to be dispatched to any countries other than Canada, Iraq and Iran and shipped by an agent) through Dec. 23. Copy Centers and Printing Services

Copy Centers and Printing Services will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2.

Procurement Services

• Procurement Services will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2. During this period purchases can be made through M-Marketsite; purchases under $5,000 may also be made through the M-Pathways ePro Req or using the P-Card following regular policies and procedures. Regular office hours will resume Jan. 3. OfficeMax will make deliveries (including Wednesdays) from Dec. 20-23 and Dec. 27-30. There will be no deliveries from OfficeMax on Dec. 24 and 31. For emergency procurement assistance, call 734-647-4147. UMHS Contracts and Procurement will be closed Dec. 24 and 31. The office will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 27-30.

• The Calendar Review & Analysis Office will be closed Dec. 27-Jan. 2.

Information and Technology Services (ITS)

Most ITS offices will follow the university schedule for the holidays, closing at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopening Jan. 3. Report critical service outages to 764-HELP.

• University Phone Operators are closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2; they are available at 764-1817 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 26-30. Regular hours resume Jan. 3. A 24-hour automated system at 615-2244 is available to provide student, faculty and staff phone numbers.

• 4-HELP General Computing is closed Dec. 19; open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 20-Dec. 23, closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2 and reopening at 8 a.m. Jan. 3. Assistance during the holiday period will be available via e-mail. (Send to [email protected].).

• ITS Access and Accounts is closed from 5 p.m. Dec. 23 to 8 a.m. Jan. 3; limited assistance is available via e-mail between Dec.27-30. (Send to [email protected].) 

• Angell Hall Computing Site is closed from 11:30 p.m. Dec. 23 to 10 a.m. Jan. 2. Winter 2011 Interim Hours (Jan. 2-15) are 7:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m. weekends. The School of Education building is closed from 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23 to 7:30 a.m. Jan. 3. Winter 2011 interim hours (Jan. 3-15) are 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed weekends. Holiday hours for other Campus Computing Sites can be found at www.itcs.umich.edu/sites/labs/hours.php.

• U-M Computer Showcase at the Michigan Union closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. Jan. 3. The Pierpont Commons store is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 20-21 and closed Dec. 22-Jan. 3. Computer repair and consulting services follow the Computer Showcase schedule. Repairs dropped off Dec. 15-17 may not be completed prior to closing on Dec. 23. No repairs will be accepted between Dec. 20-Jan. 3; consultants will be in Computer Showcase for pick-ups Dec. 20-23 and Jan. 3. Repair times may be adversely affected by high demand on delivery services resulting in possible delays in shipping of replacement parts during December.

• The ITS Comm Customer Service Center is closed from 4:30 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopens at 8 a.m. Jan. 2. Emergency voice, data or video repair requests during that period should be reported to 647-8888. Select emergency option, then select voice, video or data and an operator will take information and dispatch technicians. For nonemergency voice, data or video repair requests, call 647-8888. Select the nonemergency option, then select voice, video or data and leave a message as instructed. These requests will be handled beginning Jan. 2. Any changes to this schedule will be posted at www.itcs.umich.edu.

• ITS Administrative Computing offices, including the Administrative Help Desk, are closed from 5 p.m. Dec. 23 to 8 a.m. Jan. 3. For more information go to www.mais.umich.edu/systeminfo/hours.html.

• Information and Infrastructure Assurance is on call for IT security emergencies throughout Winter Break. Submit emergency information at safecomputing.umich.edu/main/contact.php.

U-M Facilities Preparation and Service

During the holidays call 763-1131 (or 911 from a campus phone) to reach the Department of Public Safety for crimes, safety concerns or to request spill response. Call 647-2059 to reach Plant Operations Call Center for maintenance requests including custodial, grounds and parking maintenance.

Plant Operations Services

• The Key Office will close to walk-in service at 3:45 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopen Jan. 3. Call 647-2059 for emergencies.

• Building facilities managers: Regular custodial services will conclude Dec. 23. Upon request, limited custodial services dedicated to common area and rest room cleaning will be provided during season days. E-mail custodial service requests to the Plant Operations Call Center ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Waste collections for trash and recyclables will be monitored during the season days and will occur on an as-needed basis. Call 647-2059 if there are additional needs.

Occupational Safety and Environmental Health

Call 763-4568 before Dec. 17 for approval of radioactive material deliveries Dec. 27-30. Deliveries may be scheduled if lab staff are available. Waste collections for radioactive waste, chemical waste and medical/pathological waste will be conducted through Dec. 23 and resume Jan. 3. Call 763-4568 before Dec. 17 to request special pick-ups.

Occupational Health Services

Occupational Health Services will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2, and reopen at 7 a.m. Jan. 3.

UM-Dearborn

• Most campus offices close Dec. 24 and reopen Jan. 3, with exceptions:

Mardigian Library Computer Lab closes at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 22, reopens at 10 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Jan. 3-4; regular hours resume Jan. 5.

Computing Wing Lab closes at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 22 and is open from 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 23. The lab is closed Dec. 24-Jan. 3, open from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Jan. 4-5; regular hours resume Jan. 5.

• The bookstore is closed Dec. 24-27, open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 28-30 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 31. It is closed Jan. 1, and open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Jan 2.

UM-Flint

Offices close at 5 p.m. Dec. 20-22 and 4 p.m. Dec. 23. Offices are closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2 and will reopen Jan. 3.

Energy reduction

• Turn off all unused office and room equipment such as computers, monitors, printers, fans, coffee pots and lighting. Also unplug chargers for cell phones and PDAs. Close windows to prevent water pipes and sprinkler heads from freezing and to save energy.

• Building facilities managers: Provide Building Automation Services with schedule information via e-mail ([email protected]) or by phone (763-4013) if ventilation must be turned on due to special events or activities in offices, classrooms and other areas from 5 p.m. Dec. 23 to midnight Jan. 2. Animal rooms and research areas with fume hoods or special ventilation requirements will not see any reduction. Close fume hoods and where available switch them to “low” or “unoccupied.”

Museums and libraries

• The U-M Museum of Art (UMMA) will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and reopen from noon-5 p.m. Dec. 26. The building is closed Dec. 27, open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 28-30; and closes at 3 p.m. Dec. 31. The UMMA is closed Jan. 1, open from noon-5 p.m. Jan. 2, and will resume normal hours Jan. 3.

• The Bentley Historical Library will close at noon Dec. 24 and reopen at 9 a.m. Jan. 3.

Transportation

• Fleet Services will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopen at 6:30 a.m. Jan. 3. Vehicles to be rented over this period will need to be picked-up prior to closing on Dec. 23. The Fleet Services office telephone 764-3427 will be forwarded to an informational voice recording.

• The Service Station at Baxter Road will remain in service throughout the season day period. The Kipke site will be accessible on a limited basis, as the gates for Lot SC10 will be closed during nonoperational hours.

• The Fleet Services Garage will close at 12:30 a.m. Dec. 24 and reopen at 7 a.m. Jan. 3. For vehicle emergencies when the garage is closed, contact DPS at 763-1131. Calls will be returned by a garage supervisor.

Parking & Transportation

U-M Transit Services: There will be no bus service Dec. 25 or Jan.1. Regular U-M campus bus and UMHS shuttle service will be modified as follows:

• Commuter, Bursley/Baits and Northwood: Regular service will run through Dec. 23 and will resume Jan. 3.

• Dec. 24, Northwood buses will run every 40 minutes from 7:35 a.m.-6:15 p.m. See the Dec. 24 schedule at www.pts.umich.edu.

• Dec. 26 – 31 and Jan. 2, Northwood buses will run every 40 minutes and will follow the Winter Break schedule. For details, see www.pts.umich.edu.

• UMHS shuttles: Regular service will run through Dec. 23 and will resume Jan. 3. To provide service between Lot M75 and the Medical Center a Mitchell Express shuttle will run every 20 minutes between 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Dec. 27-30. It will not serve the Wall Street or North Ingalls Building stops.

• Paratransit Service: Regular service will be available through Dec. 23 and will resume Jan. 3.

Permit parking

• Parking enforcement will be suspended for permits and meter fees in all U-M parking areas except the Simpson Circle (Mott) Structure, North Entrance (Cancer Center) Structure and CVC Structure from 5 p.m. Dec. 23 to 6 a.m. Jan. 3. This policy does not extend to City of Ann Arbor parking areas.

• Orange Lots M75 and NC78 on Fuller Road will be available for parking Dec. 27-30 with shuttle service to the Medical Center provided every 20 minutes from 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

• Medical Center evening and night shift staff with yellow or orange permits who cannot be accommodated by the special Mitchell Express shuttle service will be allowed to park at the Taubman Structure (Parking A) Dec. 24-Jan. 2. Enter through Lanes 9 or 10 and exit through Lanes 13 or 14. To minimize the impact on patient parking, staff are asked to park in the south annex.

Patient and visitor parking

Patient and visitor parking at the Taubman Parking Structure (Parking A), Cancer Center Parking Structure (Parking B) and CVC Parking Structure (Parking C) will continue normal operations throughout the holiday season, except Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 when parking will be free. Patient and visitor parking at the Fletcher and Palmer structures will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 2.

Safety

Department of Public Safety

• Remind staff, faculty and student colleagues that before leaving work, research or living areas for the holidays, close and lock all windows and doors, secure valuables, lock desks, rooms and closets, double-check that all chemicals are properly capped and research operations properly secured while unattended.

• Building facilities managers: E-mail building hours to DPS as soon as possible to [email protected].
