Thompson Street Parking Structure offices to open

Two U-M offices will move to a new location on Central Campus in the coming weeks as work is completed on the expanded Thompson Street Parking Structure and the adjacent two-story office building along South Division Street.

Parking Customer Services will relocate today (Nov. 22) and Tuesday. Parking Services manages the university permit parking system and the patient and visitor parking areas on campus. The new office will open Tuesday. The main office entrance is on South Division Street, but also can be accessed from within the parking structure at the southeast corner of the office building.

The Office of Budget and Planning will move Dec. 1-3. OBP is responsible for operationalizing the General Fund budget and providing institutional research.

After more than two decades, OBP will move from off-campus leased space to university space.

The finishing touches on the parking structure include:

• A new, indoor bicycle storage facility — a first of its kind at the university — with capacity for 50 bikes. Information regarding renting space in the facility will be available on the Parking & Transportation Services website (www.pts.umich.edu) as soon as it becomes available.

• Interior parking spaces for motorcycles will provide a safe entry/exit lane that doesn’t currently exist in other older structures.

• A net total of 273 additional parking spaces.

The addition is an integral part of the university’s parking and transportation strategic plan to provide for anticipated incremental growth in parking demand and to replace spaces lost on Central Campus due to various construction projects, including Weill Hall and the Perry Building addition.
