Faculty, students and staff are invited to attend the third Campus Sustainability Town Hall meeting from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Rackham Amphitheatre. This event is an opportunity for the campus community to learn about what happened over the summer and how the Campus Sustainability Integrated Assessment is progressing into the fall.
Attendees will hear from U-M leaders about the university’s sustainability mission and how the next phase of the IA project will focus on five sustainability themes to support this mission: climate, human health, ecosystem health, materials footprint and community awareness. In Phase 2, seven analysis teams will lay the groundwork to support goals for each of these themes and continue the university on a path toward becoming a world leader in sustainability education, research, operations and engagement.
At the town hall, participants will have a chance to provide comments and ask the faculty heading the seven analysis teams about topics important to their daily life, such as food, transportation and the buildings they occupy. They’ll also have the opportunity to ask about sustainability topics important for the campus including the cultural awareness, renewable energy plans, purchasing and recycling, and land and water use.
The analysis teams continue to be led by faculty with expertise in these areas and are staffed by four to six students — picked from more than 165 applicants. New team membership includes an MBA student who will help with cost-benefit analysis of proposed actions.
