Stephen Dolen has been appointed executive director of Parking & Transportation Services, effective July 12.
Dolen comes to the university from FedEx, where he served as managing director of operations since 2005. His group included 300 employees and generated $60 million in revenue annually.
Prior to that, Dolen held a series of positions with FedEx, or acquired companies, working in logistics and fleet management.
“As we move to enhance our parking and transportation strategic plan, one of our key goals is to increase the satisfaction of our patients, students, faculty and staff who are dependent upon our services,” says Hank Baier, associate vice president for facilities and operations.
“Steve’s background with FedEx involved managing and directing transportation operations in a complex environment. His experience with directing multiple systems and dealing with demanding clients will be a huge asset to the team. We look forward to him starting in July.”
In addition to planning and operating a parking system to accommodate a campus population of approximately 70,000 students, faculty and staff, the executive director also is responsible for overseeing fleet operations and bus services.
Parking & Transportation Services provides commuter transit service for six million passengers annually, manages and maintains one of the largest vehicle fleets in the state of Michigan, and manages the university’s parking system including its 13 parking structures and numerous surface lots.
