Elections to fill the two faculty representative positions on the university’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) Oversight Committee elections will take place in the next few weeks.
One position will be filled by a member of the Senate faculty in an election conducted by the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA). The second position, representing non-Senate faculty, will be filled through an election in which lecturers, emeriti, adjunct and clinical faculty members will participate. It will be conducted by University Human Resources.

University Human Resources is soliciting nominations for the non-Senate faculty seat and is sending an e-mail announcement to each eligible member. Members of the following groups are eligible to be nominated for and participate in the election for this position: lecturers, emeriti, adjunct and clinical faculty members. Members of this group may nominate themselves or a fellow member of this respective group to serve on the committee.
Nominations may be made online through Feb. 26. All nominations will appear on the final election ballot in March. Appointment of the newly elected member for a two-year term will take place in April.

The six-member DPS Oversight Committee is comprised of two student members, two faculty members (one Senate faculty and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms.
The DPS Oversight Committee considers grievances against any police officer or the department. Its findings and recommendations are reported to the executive vice president and chief financial officer. For additional information about the committee and its procedures go to hr.umich.edu/dps.
