Energy Reduction

Faculty and staff are asked to conserve utility consumption and help make a positive impact on the environment and budgets. Provide Building Automation Services (BAS) with schedule information via e-mail ([email protected]), by FAX (936-3942) or by phone (763-4013) if ventilation must be turned on due to special events or circumstances in offices, classrooms and other areas that will be used over the holiday period from 5 p.m. Dec. 24 to midnight, Jan. 3. Otherwise, most ventilation systems will be adjusted for the holiday period; animal rooms and research areas with fume hoods or special ventilation requirements will not see any reduction. Close fume hoods and where available switch them to “low” or “unoccupied.” Turn off all unused office equipment such as computers, monitors, printers, fans, coffee pots and task lighting. Unplug chargers for cell phones. Close windows to prevent water pipes and sprinkler heads from freezing, and to save energy.

Safety

• Remind staff, faculty and student colleagues to close and lock all windows and doors, secure valuables, lock desks and closets, and double-check that all chemicals are properly capped and research operations properly secured while unattended.

• Building facilities managers should e-mail building hours to DPS as soon as possible at [email protected] so DPS staff is informed and more appropriately can respond to incidents that may occur.
