The Fair Lane Music Guild continues its 40th anniversary season with the CutTime Players (above, photo by Hart Holmann) in the 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 performance “CutTime for the Holidays,” featuring holiday favorites performed by Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians including three DSO principals. It is hosted by arranger/bassist Rick Robinson. For more information call 313-593-5330. The Grammy Award-winning University Musical Society Choral Union (2006 Best Choral Performance for William Bolcom’s “Songs of Innocence and of Experience”) launches the holiday season with its signature work, Handel’s oratorio “Messiah,” joined by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (below, photo by Peter Smith Photography), at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Hill Auditorium.
