Three faculty entrepreneurs will receive awards from the Michigan Venture Capital Association at the organization’s Nov. 9 awards dinner. Gary Glick and Dr. James Baker Jr. will receive Venture Financings of the Year awards from the MVCA. Glick, professor of biological chemistry at the Medical School and the Werner E. Bachmann Collegiate Professor of Chemistry, is founder and chief scientific officer of Lycera, a U-M spinoff pharmaceutical company. Baker, professor of internal medicine at the Medical School, professor of biomedical engineering at the College of Engineering and director of the university’s Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences, is founder of Ann Arbor-based biotech startup NanoBio. David Brophy, associate professor at the Ross School of Business, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is director of the Center for Venture Capital and Private Equity Finance at the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. The MVCA said his passion has inspired many students to pursue careers as entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
