Items stolen in two office burglaries
Items were stolen in each of two burglaries that were reported in September. A temporary office trailer used by construction managers with the Barton Malow Company at Michigan Stadium was broken into Sept. 29. Five laptop computers and a data projector were reported stolen in the early morning incident. Entry was gained after the front door window was smashed. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigation is continuing.
A table-top safe was reported stolen Sept 11 from the Dexter Health Center in Dexter. The safe contained cash and gift cards. Pry marks were found on the clinic’s front door lock, but the case has been closed due to lack of leads.
Student accused of assault
An overnight visitor to an Alice Lloyd Hall room told police Sept. 12 that he was assaulted earlier that day. The visitor told police that while he was sleeping on a temporary mattress on the floor, he awoke to find his friend’s roommate inappropriately touching him. The results of the investigation were submitted Sept. 28 to the Washtenaw County prosecutor for authorization of charges.
Fight results in broken nose
Two residents of Markley Hall were involved in a hallway dispute at about 2 a.m. Sept. 25. The argument ended when one student reportedly used his head to strike the other student in the nose, resulting in a broken nose. The offender was processed, released and relocated to another residence hall. The results of the investigation on the aggravated assault will be submitted to the county prosecutor for review.
Patient bites police officer
A Green Oak Township police officer was bitten on the wrist by a 34-year-old man he was escorting to the University Hospital for treatment. Upon arrival at the Emergency Department, the man refused to cooperate with hospital staff and the officer. During the process of helping to restrain the man, the officer was bit. The results of the assault investigation were submitted to the prosecutor’s office Sept. 23.
Patient reports assault
A 61-year-old man told DPS officers that he was assaulted Aug. 24 while he was being treated for an unknown reason at the University Hospital. The man said he couldn’t remember many details, but believed a staff person used a metal object to assault him because he wasn’t cooperative. The DPS investigation continues.
