Photo: Coleman meets with UM-Dearborn campus community

President Mary Sue Coleman meets with student leaders at UM-Dearborn to discuss how they can enhance state support for public higher education. The president’s visit Thursday was an opportunity to meet with student leaders and members of the faculty and staff senates, to discuss topics including the state budget, new doctoral degree programs, and UM-Dearborn’s “metropolitan vision.” She also conducted an open forum for the campus community. Later in the day, Coleman also took part in “Conversations on Race,” an ongoing series conducted in collaboration with New Detroit “to promote open, honest discussion about racial issues.” Journalist Gwen Ifill was the featured speaker at the session that focused on race and politics.
