The following items were approved by the Board of Regents at its March 19 meeting.

Regents set meeting schedule

Regents established a meeting schedule for 2010. They will meet Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, April 15, May 20 (UM-Dearborn), June 17, July 15, Sept. 16, Oct. 28 (UM-Flint), Nov. 18 and Dec. 16. The board does not meet in August. Times are posted in the Record in advance of the meeting

Named professorships

Alan Deardorff, John W. Sweetland Professor of International Economics, LSA, effective May 1, 2009-May 31, 2010.

Goncalo Abecasis, Felix E. Moore Collegiate Professor of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, effective April 1, 2009-March 31, 2014.

Dr. Kathleen Cooney, Frances and Victor Ginsberg Professor of Hematology/Oncology, Medical School, effective March 1, 2009-Aug. 31, 2014.

Retirements

Fernando Coronil, professor of anthropology and professor of history, LSA, effective Dec. 31, 2008. He joined the university in 1988 where he served as director of the joint doctoral program in anthropology and history and as the director of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program in the International Institute. Coronil’s research focused on Latin American history, politics and economics in a global context.

Charles Dunlop, David M. French Professor and professor of philosophy, College of Arts and Sciences, UM-Flint, effective Dec. 31, 2008. He served two terms as the chair of the philosophy department and published three books as well as dozens of articles focusing on topics such as philosophy, society and technology. In 1994 he received the UM-Flint Faculty Achievement Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research.
