Emanuel Hertzler

Emanuel Hertzler, emeritus professor of biology at U-M-Dearborn, died Jan. 28 in Granger, Ind. He was 92.

Hertzler, who held a doctorate in biology, also taught at Kent State University.

He was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Norristown, Penn. On June 14, 1942, he married Myrtle Schnell in Orville, Ohio.

Hertzler is a former member of the College Mennonite Church in Goshen and most recently attended Kern Road Mennonite Church (KRMC).

Hertzler is survived by daughters Barbara Cassel Hertzler Martin of Madison, Wis., Linda Louise Hertzler Pierard of Melbourne, Australia, and Suzanne Scarsella Hertzler of Granger; sisters Naiomi Bender of Delores, Colo., and Ruth Swope of Sarasota, Fla.; brothers Aldus of Souderton, Pa., and Elam of Sarasota; three step-grandchildren; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle, sister Sally Hertzler and brother Paul.
