The e-Waste Recycling Events sponsored by Ann Arbor Public Schools and the Climate Savers Computing Initiative @ U-M (CSCI @ U-M) filled 11 semi-trailers with 100 tons of computer monitors, CPUs, televisions and various other e-waste materials. The recycling events May 8-10 help to keep hazardous elements such as lead, mercury and chromium out of local landfills and prevent contamination to the soil and water systems. Precious metals, plastics and glass will return to the commodity stream as raw materials to manufacture new materials by Sims Recycling Solutions, a no landfill/no export recycler of electronics. CSCI @ U-M has committed to sponsoring another set of free e-waste recycling events next year and hope to expand participation to Flint and Dearborn campuses. (Photo by Ken Keeler)
