Nuclear cardiology to move to CVC
Nuclear cardiology services at the University Hospital will be relocated next fall after empty space in the new Cardiovascular Center is outfitted. The move is part of a five-year Hospitals and Health Centers (HHC) Imaging Strategic Plan to meet growing patient demands. The HHC will fund the $10.2 million project budget and the architectural firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson & Abbott will provide the design.
New roof for health service building
A new roof will be installed by next summer on the University Health Service Building. The existing roof consists of various systems installed between 1940-95. The roof will be slate and rubber membrane. University investment proceeds will fund the $1.6 million project.
Soccer field plans ok’d
Schematic designs for a new regulation competition soccer field and two practice fields near the Tisch Varsity Tennis Center were approved by the regents. Currently both men’s and women’s soccer teams practice and host home games at Ferry Field, near the main athletic administration area. The new location will allow the teams to hold workouts on the practice fields, thereby reducing the wear on the competition field. The current soccer field is planned as a new football practice field. Construction is expected to be completed next summer.
Residency guidelines for military amended
Regents approved a revision to the Residency Classification Guidelines to expand the military waiver provision. The amendment grants a waiver of out-of-state tuition to regular active duty personnel living in Michigan, regardless of the location of their military assignments. A waiver also would be given to dependents of the military person, even if the parent moves out of state, as long as the dependent is at least a junior in high school when the move takes place. The dependent also must remain enrolled full time in a high school or institute of higher education. Spouses of military personnel also receive the out-of-state tuition waiver. The new guidelines are effective beginning in fall 2007.

Retirements
Lynne Aspnes, professor of music (harp) in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, effective May 31. She joined U-M in 1985. Aspnes has performed and lectured for the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris, the Toronto Mozart Society, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She has been an ensemble harpist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Paulette Cebulski, associate professor of physical therapy in the School of Health Professions and Studies, U-M-Flint, effective June 30. She joined U-M in 1973. She worked to implement the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, the first doctoral level program at U-M—Flint. She has received many awards, including the U-M Jackie Lawson Memorial Faculty Governance Award.
Joseph Cepuran, associate professor of public administration in the School of Education at U-M-Dearborn, effective Aug. 31. He joined the University in 1974. He has worked with urban governments in Florida, Virginia, Iowa and Michigan. He has been a long-term member of the Michigan Public Management Institute and has been president and vice president of the Detroit chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.
Alfred Hinton, professor of art in the School of Art & Design, effective May 31. He joined U-M in 1977. Hinton uses both found and fabricated objects from which he creates abstract collages that often explore ancient symbols and mythology to find new meaning and spiritual significance. His works have been exhibited internationally and can be found in private and public collections.
Cynthia Kincaid, clinical associate professor of physical therapy in the School of Health Professions and Studies at U-M-Flint, effective July 31. She joined U-M in 1980. She was instrumental in establishing the clinical education network in Flint and mid-Michigan needed to support clinical education of physical therapy students. She has served in leadership positions American Physical Therapy Association.
Kenneth Koral, research professor in the Department of Radiology, Medical School, effective June 30. He joined the University in 1976. Koral’s research activities include the estimation of radiation dose absorbed by tumors during radiopharmaceutical therapy and other methods. He has served as a grant reviewer, manuscript reviewer or associate editor for a variety of scientific journals.
