Upcoming road projects to affect driving near Ann Arbor campus

Topics:

The University of Michigan campus community can expect delays in the coming months as the state and the city of Ann Arbor continue necessary road projects throughout the community.

M-14 reconstruction

Faculty and staff whose commute includes M-14 should plan ahead and expect delays. Starting March 4, construction will occur along M-14 between I-94 and the U.S. 23/M-14 interchange.

M-14 will be closed between Miller Road and U.S. 23 Business Route near Main Street. Access to Main Street and the Miller/Maple Road interchange from M-14 will be maintained at all times. Construction is expected to run through summer.

Through-access will not be available along this section of M-14 during the closure. Detour signs will be posted along U.S. 23, I-94 and M-14. One lane of M-14 will be open in each direction between the U.S. 23/M-14 interchange and Main Street, and between I-94 and Miller.

Construction will take place in stages and includes pavement patching and joint-repair work between I-94 and the Huron River, resurfacing between the Huron River and the U.S. 23/M-14 interchange, and bridge repairs at multiple locations.

Observatory Street

Road construction is set to affect Observatory Street in two phases between Ann Street and Geddes Avenue. Lane closures are expected between May and August. The project also includes water main replacement.

South Division Street

The repaving of South Division Street between Packard Street and East Huron Street will result in lane closures from May to July. One lane of traffic will be maintained, except during the construction of a water main near Jefferson Street.

Geddes Avenue

Geddes Avenue will be closed to through traffic to and from Huron Parkway and U.S.  23 for most of the duration of the project between early spring and November. Road improvements will affect Huntington Drive to Hickory Lane.

Depot Street

Construction on Depot Street will be part of the city’s annual road resurfacing project and will affect patient access to Medical Center Drive from Main Street. Lane closures will affect Depot Street between Main and Carey streets later this spring.

Hill Street

Part of the city’s annual road resurfacing project later this spring, Hill Street is expected to experience lane closures between South Fifth Avenue and South Division Street.

Don’t forget that during the summer Stadium Blvd will also be under construction as well from the Golf course entrance to Hutchens Ave. Something to keep in mind.

Is there any place in Ann Arbor that isn’t going to be under construction this summer? Art Fair will be blast with all the people around here and traffic will be even worse.

Actually, the city’s Stadium Boulevard work has been delayed until at least after this coming football season – see link:

Great!!!! More construction on trying to get to work. I always come Geddes to Huron Parkway and it was closed last summer till this past November and now it’s going to be closed again from Spring until November. I understand work needs to be done, but does the city of Ann Arbor realize how hard is to get here and get home. Even with the students gone during the spring and summer, traffic is a nightmare!
