EMU receives $2 million for STEM program

The U.S. Department of Education’s Title III Program has awarded Eastern Michigan University a five-year grant of nearly $2 million to broaden and institutionalize EMU’s Creative Scientific Inquiry Experience. The grant will assist CSIE in encouraging women and minority students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. CSIE supports EMU STEM students with customized academic support, academic service learning, and career exploration and mentorship.

Wayne State engineering receives single largest gift

The College of Engineering at Wayne State University has announced the single largest gift in the history of the college, $25 million from alumnus James A. Anderson and his wife, Patricia. The investment will establish the James and Patricia Anderson Engineering Ventures Institute to foster a culture of entrepreneurship, offering expert guidance and resources for faculty and students during the startup process.

MSU business school granted $25 million

Michigan State University has announced a $25 million challenge grant from MSU alumnus Eli Broad and his wife, Edythe, to expand the MBA and graduate programs at the Eli Broad College of Business. The Broads have donated nearly $100 million to MSU in total. The College of Business intends to leverage the Broads’ gift to raise another $80 million through matching gifts from other donors, for a total investment of $105 million.

University of Nebraska granted $1.3 million for social work

Thanks to a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration, the Grace Abbott School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is establishing Project NETWORK: Nebraska’s Education Targeting Workforce Organization, Resources and Knowledge. The program will grant stipends to support Masters of Social Work graduate students, providing mental health interventions to at-risk Nebraska youth with emphasis on rural areas.

University of Chicago launches public phase of $4.5 billion campaign

The University of Chicago has launched the public phase of the most ambitious fundraising campaign in its history, titled the University of Chicago Campaign: Inquiry and Impact. The fundraising campaign aims to raise $4.5 billion in the next five years, supporting faculty and researchers who are shaping fields of inquiry and pursuing initiatives to enhance the university’s local and global impact.
