U-M psychologist receives Guggenheim Fellowship

Associate Professor Joseph Gone, whose work explores cultural psychology, has been awarded a fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. This year, the prestigious national honor recognizing distinguished achievement in various fields went to 178 artists, scholars and scientists.


ITS issues warning and tips about the Heartbleed Bug

Information and Technology Services has compiled information about the Heartbleed Bug, which affects Web sites and servers using certain versions of OpenSSL software. Most U-M owned servers and websites are now protected from Heartbleed, and there is no evidence that any U-M sites have been compromised.


‘Body hack’ app by math researchers shortcuts jet-lag recovery

A different kind of jet-lag mobile app released Thursday by U-M mathematicians reveals previously unknown shortcuts that can help travelers snap their internal clocks to new time zones as efficiently as possible.

Dearborn, Flint campuses announce commencement speakers

UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint have announced the speakers for their upcoming commencement ceremonies. The Dearborn campus will conduct morning and afternoon ceremonies on April 27, and the Flint campus will conduct morning and afternoon ceremonies on May 4.

“The administration’s claims regarding the gender pay gap are faulty, and its proposal to make it easier for women to sue employers for equal pay would create a disincentive for firms to hire women,” wrote Mark Perry, professor of finance at UM-Flint, in an opinion piece asserting a pay gap between men and women doesn’t truly exist when other factors are considered.

Keeping the wheels spinning

Chris Savoie has been fitting kids into wheelchairs for U-M’s Wheelchair Seating Services since 1999, and he says he sees the work differently than most. “It’s not that I detach myself from the situation or the people I’m involved with. It’s that I think, ‘I am there. I can help.'” Savoie’s story is one of many featured on the Stories of the Staff website.
