Renovated nuclear reactor building opens as world-class labs

More than a decade after the Ford Nuclear Reactor shut down for the last time, the building returned to life Monday as U-M’s new Nuclear Engineering Laboratory. Inside it, researchers in the nation’s top-ranked nuclear engineering program will focus on advancing nuclear security, nonproliferation, safety and energy.


UMOR to honor six staff members for outstanding research service

The Office of Research will recognize six U-M staff members — Bennet Fauber, Jessica Getman, Missy Tuck, Carrie Disney, Nicholas Prieur and Kathryn DeWitt — with awards honoring them for their outstanding research service during a reception and award ceremony May 17.


Study looks at dads’ search for work-family balance after 2nd child

There’s a tug-of-war in many households after the second child is born. The struggle involves dads, who feel increased pressure to balance work and family in the new two-child home. The conflict inhibits men from being involved in infant care after the birth of a second child, a new U-M study shows.

Cathleen Connell, professor of health behavior and health education, and her daughter Frannie help organize inventory for the Kiwanis Club Thrift Sale, which supports a variety of local charities and social agencies. They joined more than 200 School of Public Health volunteers who worked at eight locations in Ann Arbor, Flint and Detroit on Saturday as part of the school’s first Service Day. Cases with splits in authority are cases the U.S. Supreme Court exists to resolve.”
