Coleman looking to strengthen collaborations during visit to India

President Mary Sue Coleman and other U-M leaders will visit India next week to build partnerships and strengthen collaborations with Indian institutions of higher education. They will travel to Delhi and Mumbai Nov. 13-17 to work jointly with Indian educational leaders on solving global issues.


Sustainability Town Hall explores climate change adaptation

More than 120 students, faculty and staff attended Wednesday’s Sustainability Town Hall to learn about climate change adaptation practices and how the university’s efforts address climate change.


REMINDER: Open Enrollment for benefits runs until 5 p.m. Friday

Open Enrollment, the period during which benefits-eligible faculty, staff, retirees and students can change their benefit choices, will end at 5 p.m. Friday. Benefit changes or annual enrollment in a Flexible Spending Account can be completed through Wolverine Access.

Surgical improvement

U-M engineers, in collaboration with the Medical School, have developed a new, affordable tool to make performing minimally invasive surgery easier for surgeons. The tool, called FlexDex, acts as an extension of the surgeon’s arm, allowing the doctor to control it in a natural and intuitive manner. In this video, Shorya Awtar, associate professor of mechanical engineering, discusses how FlexDex works.

Well-earned reward

When Margo Martindale won her Emmy Award in 2011 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, the first thing she said in her acceptance speech was, “Sometimes things just take time. But with time comes great appreciation.” Martindale, who received a Bachelor of Arts degree from U-M in 1973, has worked steadily in theater, film and television, but her award-winning role as Mags Bennett in the FX series “Justified” made her a bona fide star.
